On May 12, 2025, a small subset of Kinis — specifically those delivered before March 2024 — experienced a major connectivity outage.
In the early morning hours, our service provider rotated the security certificates used to protect communication between Kinis and our backend. This change occurred automatically, 45 days before the scheduled expiration of the previous certificates. Unfortunately, older Kinis with earlier embedded certificate versions were unable to establish secure connections with our servers.
We had already started updating these devices over the network but had planned to complete this process gradually over the remaining 45 days. The early renewal caught us off guard.
Because these Kinis could not check in, our system began issuing warning messages such as:
"Failed to report status. Something may be wrong with it or your Wi-Fi network."
These Kinis were also unable to send legitimate alerts during the outage.
The issue was resolved at approximately 1:30 AM PDT on May 13, 2025 by rolling back certificates. Affected Kinis have since resumed normal operation. We will continue pushing out firmware updates over the next few weeks, upgrading these older Kinis from rev12 to the latest version.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We apologize for the inconvenience.
